What is Estate Planning and Why is it Important?

Estate Law is the process of taking a proactive planning approach before your passing to ensure a smooth transition for your loved ones and a peace of mind knowing they’ll have some form of support in the event that you should pass.

At the Law Office of Norman A. Campbell we listen to your concerns when it comes to your living will and choosing and estate administrator or representative, offer our sound legal counsel, and provide you with all of the information necessary for you to feel confident about establishing your estate.

What is Probate Law and Why is it Important?

Estate and Probate law are similar. Probate law is essentially the legal process that handles any leftover assets and debts after one passes away that has not yet been addressed or that may involve a dispute. For example, probate law can include proving the validity of a will, evenly distributing assets, finding next of kin, paying estate taxes and debts, and so forth.

If your loved one has passed without a plan for their future estate, and you feel you are entitled to left-over assets, or you have additional concerns about their estate status we’re able to help you. We take the time to analyze the situation, collect all of the pertinent information and factors that may impact the situation, and carefully handcrafted a plan to help achieve your preferred outcome or protect your best interests.
Conservatorship: The legal process by which a person (Conservator) is appointed by a judge to manage the financial affairs of another (Protected Person) due to physical or mental limitations, or old age so that a person's assets will not be wasted and are used solely for the benefit of the Protected Person.
Guardianship: The legal process by which a person (Guardian) is appointed by a judge to manage everything, other than financial affairs, of another (Ward) due to physical or mental incapacity. The powers and duties of a Guardian will be limited only to those decisions Ward cannot safely make themselves. Limited may be medical decisions or housing decisions, for instance, or unlimited if the Ward is determined to be unable to make any decisions on his or her own.
